Graceland!

When Bas and I decided to drive to Florida from Kansas, we looked for a halfway point on the map to stop for a night.  And there was Memphis, and since neither of us had been to Graceland, we decided to go for it.  It's totally campy, and hokey, but worth doing once in your life!

Elvis had at least one TV in every room of the house... here it is in the dining room.

Classic "harvest gold" fridge.

Ever wondered what a closed circuit TV system looked like in the 70's?  Yes, it still operated.

TV in the kitchen.

And in the basement lounge, there were 3!  Elvis had heard that the president liked to watch the news on all 3 networks at the same time, and decided he needed to do the same thing!

He had lots of these monkey sculptures everywhere...

This was definitely my favorite room, the pool hall - check out the fabric on the ceiling!  Very Oscar de la Renta 1973!

Lisa Marie's swingset in the backyard.

The famous gold lame' suit.

Hall of gold records.

His first, Heartbreak Hotel.

The wedding clothes.

This was the lounge in the racquet ball house!

His grave.

There were a bunch of his cars there, and some very cool ones, like this MG.

And the famous pink Cadillac.

This was his big plane, the Lisa Marie.

Gold plated guest bathroom. (He had his own bathroom and dressing room at the back of the plane.)

After the living room was the dining room.

Then there was a lounge / guest bedroom before his private bedroom shown here.

And then the smaller jet... Elvis famously called his pilot up one day and told him they were going to Denver.  Once they got airborne, the pilot asked why they were going to Denver.  Elvis replied that he wanted a peanut butter sandwich.  When they landed, a car drove up, and out jumped a guy with a bag of peanut butter sandwiches, and then they turned around and headed home!

my eldest loves Elvis (thank Lilo and Stitch!) and was fascinated by these pics.
