Flat Stanley

Our good friend Olivia, who lives in Columbus, recently finished reading a story in her first grade class, about a boy who was flattened by a bulletin board. His name is Flat Stanley and has had many adventures since being flat. He even traveled to many places in the mail. Shortly after reading her story, Flat Stanly visited some of our other friends in Hong Kong and then Singapore. Our friend Mark sent him to us from there. So this weekend we took Flat Stanley to visit some places while we ran our errands!

Here is Flat in downtown Herzogenaurach (where Bas works).

And visiting a Frankische Schweiz traditional Easter Well in Biederbach. This well was featured in the Guinness Book of World Records for having over 11,000 hand decorated, real eggs. (more on this in the next post.)

He also went to Nuremberg with us. Here he is at the Sebalduskirche (Church of St. Sebald) which was first built ca 1230.

Here he is in front of the Schoner Brunnen (beautiful fountain.) It was originally built in 1385, and the wrought iron grille surrounding the fountain has a brass ring which is supposed to bring you good luck if you reach up and spin it around full circle.

And here he is in front of the Lorenzkirche. Also built in the middle ages, in the late 13th century.

And this is Stanley in front of my favorite Nuremberg scene, the Heilig-Geist-Spital (Holy Ghost Hospital) which sits over the river Pegnitz. It also dates to the 14th cenury... apparently there was a bit of a medieval building boom here in Nuremberg!
