London Day 1

OK - so after a few tries - here is our first post on London... since we have so many pictures, I will break it up into a few posts.

Here is Luna outside the Underground or "Tube." We made a few mistakes, but on our last day felt like masters. It was a bit more confusing than the NYC subway, but it certainly got us where we needed to go!

P.S. - that's our new stroller, the Mon Kiss - I LOVE it!

And here's Bas with Luna inside the Earl's Court station, which was just one block from our hotel.

Look kids, Big Ben, Parliament!

The London Eye - and no, we didn't pay the 30 pounds each to go up in it...

And just around the corner... Westminster Abbey -

Downing Street, where the Prime Minister lives. It's rather unassuming, but it has been the home of Sir Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher, and now - Gordon Brown.

This is the Horse Guards Building, which is the headquarters of the British Army. There are two mounted sentries and they change guard every hour as a benefit to the horses. We had the pleasure of seeing it - and it was quite a sight!

Here are the new guards coming out of the stables.

Here is the new guard replacing the old guard, who is out front, turning the corner.

And here is the old guard, coming back into the courtyard. It was amazing the way that they just steered through the people - shouting "Stand Clear!"

Inspecting their swords prior to dismount.

Here is the foot guard outside the stables. He's shouting at us to stand clear of the arches, which we weren't (it's not like we knew we were supposed to!)

This is Trafalgar Square - the hub of London.

St. Martin in the Fields... we did some brass rubbing here. I did some when I was a girl - but they were destroyed in a move. This time I will be sure to get them framed!

Approaching Regent St. (shopping!) from Piccadilly Circus... don't your feet hurt already?

Hamley's toy store - where we got Luna some "In the Night Garden" toys.

By the end of the day it was really raining. Here's Luna under her protective plastic stroller cover on the subway home. She would get pretty used to this by the time we left!
