On the way back from Sheila and Roger's we stopped in Heidelberg for lunch and to take in the old town. It was about half way back, so it was the perfect stop...
Here's our first view of the famous castle...
Here's the Dom on the Marktplatz...
Mom forgot to get Lulu's sippy cup out of the car, so she got to use a straw and hold a glass! Rare occasion!
View of the side of the old Rathaus from our lunch location.
Walking from the center to the old stone bridge...
Iconic shot of the bridge, the bridge tower, and the castle...
This building is one of the best examples of Renaissance architecture still standing in Germany. It was built in 1592 and has managed to escape destruction. It has been a hotel since like the 1700's.
This is the famous powder tower, that was used for storing gun powder. It sits in the most protected spot of the castle grounds, and has walls 26 feet wide, but was finally blown up, by the French in the 17th century. Knowing how this castle is situated on the mountain, it's unbelievable that they could even get at this tower, on the top side of the hill - they must have been having a terrible time defending the castle from the inside!
Heading up to the castle - it was raining so we skipped the walk...
