Bas Ran A Marathon!!!!

Here we are, bright and early, on our way to the start.  Some good friends left us their hotel room when they had to drop out.  It was so close to the start and finish line, it was fabulous!

The weather was perfect.  Crisp and cool in the morning, but perfectly clear and sunny.

Walking through the Tiergarten.

Some of the 40,000 runners heading towards the starting grids.  Adidas sponsored the race so they are all wearing plastic covers with Adidas on it to stay warm.

Not the most flattering picture, but here's Bas getting one last bit of energy before the start.  He kept the old sweater on and tossed it when he didn't need it any longer!

After dropping him off we headed back to the hotel and I managed to get these shots as he ran by!

Then we went back to the room and watched the race on TV.  We considered taking the U-bahn to another location on the race course, but with both girls and stroller I reconsidered, too.

These guys were the leaders.  Mutai - the guy on the left one.  Bas was wearing the same Adidas kit...  I think they secretly planned it.

The finish was just past the Brandenburg gate.

Luna was so excited when she found out that the race was going to be on TV.  She watched very carefully for Papa!  For at least 10 minutes anyway.

2:04!!

After watching the race winners, we headed out to get to the finish line.  We took the U-bahn this time.  It was my own personal marathon.  I had to single-handedly carry the stroller down the stairs. But I didn't get a medal. :)

And here he is!!!  He did it in 3:35.  Unbelievable for a first marathon!  Go Papa!!!  Can not believe he is holding both girls!

And a shot in front of the Reichstag building (German Parliament).

Luna didn't make it all the way home...  after two epic tantrums, she was plum beat!  What a hero for carrying her almost the whole way home - after a marathon!

We decided to have dinner in our room - we ordered pizza.  This presented certain challenges when feeding Tess sans highchair.  At least I remembered the bibs this time!

We had 2 pizzas, 21 wings, and 500 ml of Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough ice cream!

Everybody was wiped out!
