Greece - Arrival in Santorini

So with 2 weeks worth of pictures, I have way too many to post the way I normally do... so I will keep the commentary to a minimum and let the pictures speak for themselves...  We spent the first day in Athens at the National Archaeological Museum, but I will post those with the rest of Athens.  So these our from our first couple days in Santorini.  They are some of my favorites, because they were of our first impressions, and it is just SO impressive there!

Luna being entertained on the 8 hour ferry ride...

Some shots of other islands that we stopped at on our way...

First glimpses of Santorini from the boat.

That's the village of Imerovigli, where we stayed... the highest village on the island.

The stairs down to the old port... the cruise ships still use this.

Fira

Gives you a good idea of just how high these villages are.

About to disembark... oh the anticipation!

The new port...

Finally at our hotel, and LOOK at our view!!!

We stayed in a traditional cave apartment, which included a kitchen so that we could make breakfast and lunch without having to stray far from that terrace and its view!

This is the second bathroom!

Our bathroom - carved out of the rock cliffs the apartment is built into.

Look left...

Look right...

The loft...

E.T.... phone home...

Dinner in Oia (pronounced eeya) on our first day.

The sunsets are famous.

Watching the sun crest over the island as it came up the next morning...

First breakfast... we hadn't adjusted to sleeping in yet!

Bas ran almost every day, which was quits a feat with the hills!

Headed to the store to get supplies.

Along the way...

And our walk back...

This yellow building is where we ended up staying when we added 2 nights in Santorini... so it was close!

Around the corner and towards the caldera...

Some of the terraces on the way... (some with private pools...)

Go right...

Down the steps...

Look at the beautiful view...

And here we are!

An early lunch...

For dinner on day 2 we went to Fira, a short 2km walk downhill...  the footpaths trace through the buildings along the cliffs, and you get intermittent views of the caldera and the cliffs.

Our place was just past the big blue dome over the crest...

That's Imerovigli, where we stayed, again on the right...

The funicular at the old port...

And people who chose to take mules up...

Fun, although very touristy, shopping in Fira...

An old photo from the eruption in 1956...

Our restaurant table... we always got great tables since we go a bit early with Luna...

Sunset #2...

The stairs up to Fira from the old port are numbered... I believe there were 587...
