On The Way To Wall Drug

For anyone that doesn't know there's a tiny little town in SD named Wall, after a rock formation in the badlands just down the road. And in that town is a drugstore called Wall Drug, established 1931. That was when the automobile was just beginning to take over, and all the old Model-T's would come driving down what is now interstate 90 in the summer months, with no AC and the windows down in a very dry climate. Well, Wall Drug got the bright idea to start advertising free ice water for anyone who stopped by on billboards along the road, and a piece of Americana was born. All the way from Iowa and Nebraska there are still billboards advertising Wall Drug along the road. There are even signs in Alaska and very "far away lands" announcing exactly how many miles it is to Wall Drug.

Well, Wall Drug has been a bit of a family tradition for us, as we've travelled back and forth through SD on our way to and from MT. So on our trip today I took pictures of as many billboards as I could get - while zipping by at 79 miles an hour. Here are the ones that turned out OK, as well as a few of the countryside and other interesting "oddities" along the way (South Dakotans have a penchant for finding interesting ways to display their creatvity along interstates.) There are probably twice as many signs that I either missed or didn't get good shots of.

Garden of the Gods

Here are pictures from the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. We did a quick drive through while we were there. The light was really bad for taking pictures, but hopefully you can get a sense of just how cool the place is!

New Pictures!

I'm finally posting pictures. It's been a bit difficult with our travels, so I will do a few posts today. Here's a bunch, including a bunch of Luna in a shopping cart... sleeping, putting her feet up and donning a ski mask! Also a bunch with all her cousins. The landscape photos are of the Kansas "view". We drove across it from Colorado and I tried to capture how flat it is.

This is a new slideshow widget from flickr which should make posting ALOT easier for me. So we'll see how it works! If you click the button at teh bottom right with 4 arrows in it, it will launch full screen mode.

Luna's Snow Suit

It did snow here (in Montana) yesterday, but most of it was gone by the time we went outside. But it was still cold enough to need this. I think it's too stinkin' cute.

New Camera

Hey everybody-
we're finally settled enough that I have time to post some pictures. None of the house yet, I'd like to finish a few more projects before I do that... My parents are here visiting, and they have gotten me a very nice camera as a gift (Christmas, Birthday, Mother's Day all rolled into one!) And it's fabulous, and takes such better pictures than the point and shoot I have - so I thought I'd upload a few of Luna I took yesterday. They're funny pictures, but you can really see the quality!
