Tuscany or Bust...

So... yes, it is true.  Tuscany is gorgeous.  It is one of those places where you could take 100 pictures a day, and still not capture it adequately.  I feel very lucky that we were able to spend 2 weeks there with good friends!

That is our house up on the hill, to the right.  Our hill was surrounded by hundreds of other hills just like it, in a valley surrounded by bigger, tree covered hills (not really mountains - although we could also see those off in the distance.)  On the other side of those tree covered hills, was another valley of a hundred hills just like ours, and so on, and so on, etc.

Dinner in day 2 was out at the local pizzeria... Trattoria Gino e Gina!

The trattoria was the only restaurant in Santa Luce (LOOsha) - but well worth a visit!

The little town hall in Santa Luce.

The piazza the restaurant sits on.

Had a playground, too.

Every morning when Luna woke up, the first thing she wanted to do was go downstairs and see Lieke.  I tried to make her wait until a fairly decent hour, but try explaining that one to a 4 year old...  Fortunately Sandra came prepared with craft supplies!

Tess had a couple sink baths while we were there!

The first couple days we were there we got rather concerned about the wind.  It was so windy we began to think maybe we had came at the wrong time of year, or perhaps maybe shouldn't have gotten a house on top of a hill!  But when we had dinner at the trattoria the waitress reassured us that, no, these winds were "special."  Just for us!  Fortunately they died down after a couple days, for the most part, anyway.  See the trees in the picture below...

Looks like a family conference...

Simba found a shady spot.

Baby led weaning - al fresco!

Naptime - al fresco!

Everybody pile on Vincent - al Fresco!

After our failed attempt at a pool day, we decided that if it was windy on our hill top, it probably wouldn't be at the beach 40 kilometers away, right?

Wrong. Of course.  Just very SANDY wind, there.

But Luna and Papa found a lovely collection of treasured shells for her to bring home.

And then we found a nice place to have some lunch with our sand.

Tess tried a lemon for the first time...

She loved it.

Stay Tuned... coming up next?  Pure Kitsch in Pisa.

Spielverabredung? Spieldatum? (Playdate!)

Whatever the translation... I've been nervous about hosting a playdate with Luna's schoolmates, precisely because I don't trust my German.  But Luna has now been on several playdates with some of her schoolmates, and I was beginning to feel obligated!  So we went ahead and did it... and I'm not sure what I was so worried about...

Last Wednesday afternoon, we had Carolin over...  they jumped on the trampoline...

And then I had a craft for them to do...

Look at that little face?  How could I have been scared of a four year old???

Here is the finished product Carolin got to take home...

And for the rest of the time that Carolin was here, they played quietly up in Luna's room!  Now onto the next of her schoolmates!

More Tricks from Tess

Tess has practically mastered the art of sitting...

And she's getting better at taking naps... (I'm thankful for that!)

She is thoroughly enjoying family meal time with us...

(I love the little chive stuck to her nose!)

And she has discovered that the Crème fraîche container is a perfect cooking time toy (and that Mommy gets to bend over and retrieve it every time she drops it!)

Toofy Tess and Her Tricks

Tess has broken her first tooth, on the bottom.  And she's getting lots of new tricks... here she is showing some of them off!

OK - not a trick really... just a time killer, while I cook dinner!

Not quite crawling yet, but pushing up onto her knees!

Hey!  What are you doing?

Let me just...

turn around, here...

so I can see you!

And back up on her knees!
